Description

Volunteers needed to help spread awareness about the Earned Income Tax Credit.

On Saturday, March 14, volunteers will help run an info booth celebrating "Pi Day," passing out slices of pie, and distributing info about EITC to help people "get their slice of the EITC Pie." This table location is TBA but will most likely be outdoors in downtown Walla Walla.

The Earned Income Tax Credit is a federal program to give extra money back to people who are working, but making under a certain amount of money. Last year, 448,000 families in Washington received $960million in EITC refunds! However, the program still goes unused by about 25% of our state’s qualified workers because they don’t realize they are eligible. This means more than $353 million was left unclaimed last year.

Help us get the information out to those that qualify so they can file and claim it. We are informing people about the EITC, and letting them know about free tax preparation through AARP Tax-Aide at The Center at the Park (Senior Center) next to Jefferson Park. Their phone number (527-3775) is listed on the flyers.

Some of the workers who may be unaware they qualify include people who are:

• Living in rural areas
• Self-employed
• Receiving certain disability pensions or have children with disabilities
• Without a qualifying child
• Not proficient in English
• Grandparents raising their grandchildren
• Recently divorced, unemployed, or experiencing other changes to their marital, financial, or parental status
