To sign up for this event, please email brian.burns@tristatesteelheaders.com, who can also provide you with more information. If you need help with this, don't hesitate to reach out to one of the CARE Weekend coordinators.

This event lasts from 8am - 2pm, but keep in mind that it takes about an hour to get there! If you need a ride, please reach out by Friday evening at the latest.

Make sure to dress warmly, and wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty!

If you have any questions please contact gina.lorenz@wallawalla.edu or aidan.richards@wallawalla.edu

You can get started by responding to our current needs in the United Way portal, but volunteers will also need to register on our website to gain access to the active letter requests from our partner facilities. Register to volunteer, sign up your senior program to receive letters or learn more about our work:

Volunteer: Snowboard with Big Bro Joe at Bluewood

Skyline Adventures needs snowboard volunteers to come up to the mountain at Bluewood and help kids and teens from the Big Bro Joe Foundation: getting warm outer clothing on, latching boots, and off to their lessons.  After the lessons and lunch, we need the volunteers to free-ski or snowboard with the kids until 2:30pm.  Then we need extra hands to hang up all of the used gear and getting the kids back to their bus.  Afterwards: you can ski all you want until Bluewood closes.

Big Bro Joe Foundation is on a mission to shape bright futures by providing young males with positive role models. Find out more about Big Bro Joe:

https://bigbrojoe.org

NOTE: You don't need to be male to volunteer!

Details: arrive at the Skyline lodge at 8:30am. We will give you a free lift ticket. Around 9am the ski bus arrives and we get the kids outfitted in snow gear and help them pick up their rental equipment.  Once ready to go, we help the kids get to their lesson that Bluewood provides.  For lunch, everyone gets a lunch ticket and goes into the main lodge to grab their meal.  After lunch, the kids get to free ski until 2:30pm. We like to make sure there is a volunteer with the kids in case they need help getting up after a fall and to make sure they don't go down any black diamond routes.

There will be a seasoned volunteer up on the mountain as well so just bring yourself, your gear, and we will show you the rest. -If you don't have a snowboard let us know and we can arrange those for you at no charge.

-If you don't have skis or a snowboard let us know and we can arrange those for you at no charge.

Volunteer: Ski or Snowboard with Cops N Kids at Bluewood

Skyline Adventures needs volunteers to come up to the mountain at Bluewood and help kids and teens from the Cops N Kids youth program: getting warm outer clothing on, latching boots, and off to their lessons.  After the lessons and lunch, we need the volunteers to free-ski or snowboard with the kids until 2:30pm.  Then we need extra hands to hang up all of the used gear and getting the kids back to their bus.  Afterwards: you can ski all you want until Bluewood closes.

Volunteer: Volunteer Event Planner for Local Girl Scout Troops - NOT Troop Leader

Dive into the excitement as a Volunteer Event Planner for our dynamic Girl Scout troops! You’ll have a blast designing and coordinating 3-4 unforgettable events each year, like the dazzling World Thinking Day, the electrifying Annual Cookie Rally, and possibly a thrilling fall or spring day camp. Imagine creating joyful experiences for girls of all ages, buzzing with Girl Scout spirit, while focusing purely on planning—you are not responsible for supervising individual girls or managing troops, as those roles are handled by separate chaperones and troop leaders.

Your mission is to bring creative ideas to life, attending fun monthly planning meetings (about 1-2 hours) to brainstorm and organize. You may join a few extra meetings closer to event dates to perfect every detail. On event days—typically action-packed Saturdays—you’ll oversee the magic for 4-5 hours, ensuring everything runs smoothly while the girls shine. If you’re bursting with creativity, love planning, and want to spark Girl Scout adventures, this is your dream role!

Time commitment: ~2 hours/month for meetings, plus 4-5 hours on event days. You can support without attending event. Background Check and Girl Scout Membership Require. Join us and make unforgettable memories!

Volunteer: Hospice Patient Care Volunteering

Have you ever wondered about other people's stories or lives? Perhaps you'd like to chat with someone about their life and all of their experiences they've had to shape them into the person they've become today. We all live such different lives, and no matter how long we live, it's never long enough.

Hospice volunteers are so lucky to be able to spend time with our patients, socializing and learning about patient lives, or sometimes just providing the patient's caregiver respite while their loved one sleeps. Either way, the volunteer is highly valued.

Do you enjoy gardening? Do you have a big heart you’d like to share with others by visiting or just sitting down to hold someone's hand? Are you a Veteran? Do you enjoy reading or writing? Would you like to provide caregivers of loved ones a break to go for a walk or just leave the house for a short while? Do you play music? Enjoy cleaning? Do you have a special talent or hobby you would like to share with others in their last days, weeks, or months of life? Prefer office-type work? We have a need for help with that, too!

Walla Walla Community Hospice is looking for volunteers in Walla Walla, Columbia, and Umatilla Counties!

For more information, or to apply, contact Luci Berg, Volunteer Coordinator at 509-525-5561 or luci@wwhospice.org to learn more!

Are you looking to contribute your skills to nonprofits in your community? Do you have a broad understanding of nonprofit administration and/or expertise in small business development? If so, look no further than becoming a Pathways consultant with 501 Commons. As a Pathways Consultant, you will have the opportunity to make a fundamental difference in an organization’s ability to more effectively deliver their mission!

Pathways is a short consultative process that provides a framework for what it means to be a healthy nonprofit, tips on how an organization can "easily" move themselves up the ladder, and personalized assistance working through their more challenging issues. It is meant to help organizations take stock of where they are at and daylight a way forward.

Grounded in the Five Elements of a Healthy Nonprofit Assessment, Pathways helps organizations reflect on their own ability to:

Exercise strong governance and oversight Demonstrate good management practices and a healthy organizational culture Secure the resources needed to carry out their missions and be accountable for the management of funds Communicate and steward relationships with people who give them money, use what they create, help them meet their mission, and carry their message Deliver efficient and effective programs, services, and administrative systems

Pathways consultants work in teams of two to:

Facilitate the self-assessment process and help an organization come to a consensus on where they are in regards to each of the five elements Discuss easily addressed opportunities and help the organization determine priorities for additional consultation Refer to curated recommendations in addition to doing a little research of their own to compose tailored suggestions to help the organization move the needle in a positive way

The entire Pathways process includes a series of four meetings held over the course of 2-3 months and approximately 25 hours of service per consultant.

Apply to volunteer with 501 Commons and prepare to make a difference in your own community. For more information about Pathways or volunteering with 501 Commons, reply to this posting.

Volunteer: Responding to Hail Damage

A storm traveled from the west toward Wallowa on Aug. 11, with some hail reported as large as golf balls and even baseballs in certain areas of Wallowa County and winds up to 50 mph, according to media accounts.

While many community organizations have banded together, the northeast Oregon community of around 800 people does not have the financial resources to support repairs and recovery, Governor Brown said in a news release.

The city of Wallowa is a small, remote rural community with many low-income community members that live on fixed incomes, and many are either uninsured or underinsured.

The BMLTRG is seeking individual volunteers and team volunteers to fill roles that vary from meeting with survivors to documenting needs to hands-on roofing, siding, window installation, to installing insulation. We are seeking teenagers (with appropriate supervision) to individuals skilled in the trades.

By responding to this general post we will contact you to see what the best fits are. As specific needs are identified over the next week we will be posting specific volunteer days and times for individuals but we can customize group team dates.

Thank you in advance!

Volunteer: Adult Day Center Volunteer

Volunteer opportunities are always available at the Walla Walla Adult Day Center (ADC). Our volunteers share a bit of their daily lives with us, and we could not be any more grateful. There are no mandated hours to be a volunteer, volunteers share their time according to their availability. It does not matter whether your availability is once a week for one hour or four times a week for the full six hours of the program, we'd love to have you. To become a Walla Walla ADC volunteer there are just a few prerequisites: being a listening ear, a watchful eye and having a caring attitude.

Having six daily program hours doesn't seem like much. However, when you take those six hours and multiply it by the number of participants attending on any particular day, days could turn into a whirlwind if help is not steadily available. Our daily average of 10 to 15 participants equals out to be between 60 and 90 hours of daily "supervision", socialization, engagement, and social work services. Help is always needed and welcomed.

Program hours: 9am-3pm. Monday through Thursday.

Feel free to apply through this site, or contact us at (509)527-3775 Ext. 3
