Community Emergency Response Team (CERTs) training covers basic skills that are important to know in a disaster when emergency services are not available. With training and practice, and by working as a team, you will be able to protect yourself and maximize your capability to help the greatest number of people after a disaster.
Certification takes 24 hours of classroom and exercise time. The certification will be taught by Celso Rangel a retired US Army who currently works as the Washington State Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program Coordinator. Celso speaks 10 languages, 11 with English, Currently serves on the National CERT association board as a board member and represents those who speak English as a second language within the CERT world.
Thursday, Feb 23 from 8 am - 5 pm (Classroom)
Friday, Feb 24 from 8 am - 5 pm (Classroom)
Sunday, Feb 26 from 8 am - 5 pm (Hands-on Practical Simulated Training)
The classroom and training will be free for the first 40 people. Many thanks to Adventist Community Services for covering these expenses.
Optionally you can get vegetarian meals that will be catered by WWU Sodexo. After you RSVP we will reach out to see if you are interested.
CERT ProPac Kits will be offered for $90 (optional for first 20 people who would like one)
This training is available for anyone ages 13 years and up (minors must be accompanied by an adult).
If you are working or a full-time student and you are not able to attend the class days Feb 23rd & 24th you can take the classroom portion online and get a certificate of basic training through HazReady.com - Select the Online Training - CERT 2021 en (which is free to register). Print off your certificate and send it to che@wallawalla.edu before February 20, 2022.
